When Not to Wear Leashes?

In recent years, paddleboarding has gained immense popularity, with leashes being considered a crucial safety gear. However, in certain situations, wearing leashes may not always be the wisest choice. Here, we will discuss when it's not advisable to wear leashes to ensure your safety during water activities.

1. Exploring Moving Waters:
When navigating through tidal channels, rivers, streams, or other areas with strong water currents, it's best not to wear leashes. Powerful currents can entangle leashes in trees, rocks, or other potential hazards, increasing the risk in emergency situations. In such cases, not wearing eashes can avoid entanglement issues, ensuring you can better handle potential risks.

2. Transitioning Between Water Environments:
When transitioning from moving water areas (such as tidal channels or rivers) to calm water areas (like lakes or beach surf zones), consider taking off leashes. During this transition, water currents may suddenly become calmer, and wearing leashes could hinder your movement. Removing leashes ensures you can adapt more easily to different water conditions when needed.

3. Emergency Situation Practice:
While wearing leashes provides a safety measure, unlocking them in emergency situations may require more spatial awareness and coordination. To be prepared for potential emergencies, it's advisable to practice unlocking leashes regularly in a safe environment, ensuring you can respond quickly and effectively when needed.

Is it dangerous not to wear a leashes? Certainly, leashes offer a degree of safety during paddleboarding adventures, but they are not the only safety equipment in use. Your Personal Floatation Device (PFD), life jacket, or buoyancy aids are the most critical safety gear. Through thoughtful choices, ensure your safety remains a top priority during water activities.

Remember, safety always comes first!
